NHS Values – Trewlink

NHS Values

Understanding NHS Values and the key behaviours that underpin them is essential for IMGs wanting to work within the NHS. It is something that NHS Employers will look for evidence of in your job applications.

Why It Is Important To Learn About NHS Values

Demonstrating understanding of NHS values will show knowledge and insight to your assessor that you know how the NHS works and what is expected. It demonstrates your commitment to the role, your colleagues, patients and the NHS.

What Are NHS Values?

Patients, public and staff have helped develop this expression of values that inspire passion in the NHS and that should underpin everything it does. Individual organisations will develop and build upon these values, tailoring them to their local needs. The NHS values provide common ground for co-operation to achieve shared aspirations, at all levels of the NHS. These values are:

  • Working together for patients
  • Compassion
  • Respect and dignity
  • Improving lives
  • Commitment to quality of care
  • Everyone counts

The best way to get exposure to NHS Values is by doing a clinical attachment, this allows IMGs to get an overview of departments, Trusts, how things work, relationships across the NHS, and how teams work.
